"I was registered as a qualified Marriage Celebrant in 2004. It wasn't a career move that I planned in my teens or anything like that. I just sort of fell into it after a friend's daughter had troubles finding a celebrant here, at Mission Beach.

But once I became a celebrant, it was obvious that it was something which I discovered I really enjoyed.

My husband has always said that I am "in love with love" and maybe that's why. I am told at my ceremonies that I speak from the heart with feeling and I think that's because I really do believe the things that I say.

But I do know that it has given me pride and satisfaction over the years to have pleased all my clients with a high quality and personalised service. So your ceremony, for me, will be a celebration of love."

OVERSEAS COUPLES

You will require the following :

1.                  A "Notice of Intended Marriage" form must be completed and posted to me to be received at least one month before the wedding date. This can be downloaded from the Attorney General’s website at www.ag.gov.au/celebrants

Download the 4 of 4 pages but only post pages 3 and 4. You must have your signatures witnessed by an official of an Australian Embassy, an Australian Consular officer or a Notary Public. The official must stamp the document and date it. One signature is sufficient if you both cannot do it together and then the other can sign it before the wedding. Naturally the document must be completed in English. I must receive the ORIGINAL form to lodge it. You must also post/email copies of your birth certificates and if either of you have been married before, you will also need to post/email copies of divorce papers or death certificates. If these are not in English, then they will need to be translated. When you come to Australia for the wedding , you must show me the originals of all the documents. If they need translating then let me know and I will inform you of the correct procedure.

You must also provide a Deed Poll/Certificate of Name Change, if your name has been changed other than by a previous marriage.

2.                  There are a few legal words that need to be said in the actual wedding ceremony but they can be easily written into the ceremony format. You will also need two witnesses over the age of 18yrs. If you are travelling here alone then I can also help you with those. Once we have completed the ceremony, we will need to sign the legal papers – the Official Marriage Certificate, which is sent to the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages, the copy for the Register that I keep and a Presentation Certificate that you keep.

3.                  With regard to the legalities of the marriage being recognized in your own countries, you will have to find that out yourselves before you leave home. In most cases I will be able to assist you with any requirements.
